Neurofeedback (also called EEG biofeedback) is a more powerful form of biofeedback applied directly to the brain. Our brain’s default mode is to work as effectively as it can and to correct itself (neuroplasticity), but it needs the correct feedback from our senses. Even though our brains receive feedback every second of our lives, the brain can receive or interpret incorrect information.
Imagine you are learning to hit a ball (or learning any new skill)– but you miss. The brain keeps correcting itself until you hit that ball. When your brain receives the positive feedback that you hit the ball, it reinforces those neuron pathways.
Neurofeedback shows the brain what it is doing so that the brain will heal and correct itself to work better.
When a toddler learns to walk but falls down, the fall (hitting the floor is the negative feedback) sends feedback to the brain. The toddler’s motivation to walk and the brain grasping what works (walking a few steps) and what does not work (imbalance-fell down) builds pathways that the brain will continue to use and build upon.
What Neurofeedback Looks Like
While you are watching a movie or playing a game, the NFB software displays feedback by changing the screen size or causing a flickering of the movie. Your brain will recognize it is causing the feedback within one minute, and will go to work to correct itself.
The brain has to receive feedback within a millisecond to recognize that it is causing something to happen. When the brain recognizes that it is causing this feedback (the screen flickering), the brain can “see” or determine where dysfunction is and will go to work to correct it.
Neurofeedback relieves symptoms, non-invasively and drug- free. Our goal at Intellect LLC is for your brain to stabilize enough to allow your prescription drug provider to reduce the medications you may be currently taking.
How can neurofeedback help so many different issues?
Because it is all a brain thing. Your brain controls everything…your thoughts, mood, movement, metabolism, everything in your body. When your brain is working better, then it corrects dysfunction.
Your brain is capable of working better than it is. Neurofeedback is non-invasive and drug-free.
Imagine that you are driving down a dirt road at sunset and Google Maps doesn’t seem to be taking you in the right direction. There is a paved road beside you but you can’t figure out how to get on it. Neurofeedback connects you to that road so that you can continue on your journey…
It is time for you to take back control of your life, call today so that I can sit down with you and explain how neurofeedback may help you be better.
Whatever difficulty or diagnosis you are struggling with, it is preventing you from being who you really are, but you deserve the chance to be who you are meant to be and to live your potential. Everything we do at Intellect, is to help you feel better, be better, and do better.
Neurofeedback is conducted in hospitals, school systems, drug and alcohol treatment centers, physical rehab centers, and even professional sports teams have their own neurofeedback provider.
There are many different systems, equipment, and practitioner training required to conduct neurofeedback. Intellect LLC utilizes Cygnet equipment and the Othmer Method from EEG Info. It is the world’s leader in the state of the art system in neurofeedback for therapeutic applications.
Other systems use the same protocols for everyone and train your brainwaves. We train your brain and central nervous system not your brainwaves. We individualize our protocol to your symptoms and your brain.
The Othmer method is the only system that we know of that provides ongoing monthly support with the scientists who developed our system. This ongoing support and worldwide collaboration are important to produce the best-individualized outcome.
The field of neurofeedback does not require licensure to demonstrate competence, education, or training, but our Cygnet/Othmer system does.
